Duluth, Minnesota native Michael Fedo, is a graduate of University of Minnesota-Duluth and Kent State University, where he earned a Master's in broadcasting and theater. He performed for four years as part of folksinger/comic duo, which was booked at college campuses, night clubs, and coffee houses throughout the Midwest.
He taught two years of English at Denfeld High School before leaving Duluth in 1964.

 

For the next 32 years, he taught courses in public speaking, broadcasting, and theater at colleges in Ohio, Wisconsin, New York, and Minnesota. During those decades, he published articles and essays in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Christian Science Monitor, McCalls, Parade, Sports Afield, and Runner's World---where he was a contributing editor. He also published more than 50 short stories in magazines and literary quarterlies, including, The North American Review, American Way, America West Airlines Magazine, Weber, North Dakota Quarterly, Underground Voices, and December, among others. Several of Fedo's essays have been broadcast over Public Radio stations in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Florida.

 

Michael Fedo is the author of ten books, most recently---Don't Quit Your Day Job: The Adventures of a Midlist Author, which was released in September, 2018 by Holy Cow! Press It's a memoir of his half-century writing career without a best-seller. It's both informative and humorous, with surprising insights and anecdotes about writers and editors. His previous book, Zenith City: Stories From Duluth (Minnesota University Press) is an essay collection about growing up in that city. His subjects vary widely and include: The Lynchings in Duluth, The Man From Lake Wobegon, One Shining Season, One Bad Dude, (coauthor with Ted Jefferson), Chronicles of Aunt Hilma, Indians in the Arborvitae, (a novel), Pocket Guide to Minnesota Place Names, and A Sawdust Heart, by Henry Wood, as told to Michael Fedo. He has also created a readers' theater script titled, Trial By Mob, adapted from his book, The Lynchings in Duluth, which was produced by the St. Cloud State University public radio station.
